THE CONSEQUENCES OF DISTANCE LEARNING

The new teaching methodologies affect the cognitive processes related to learning, bringing significant changes from an individual point of view and emotionally. Actual technologies integrated with teaching methodologies have changed the traditional approach both of the teacher and the learner. The advent of such digital media has led to a reorganization of the communication  and learning processes in which the real protagonists become the subjects who come across a reality on the screens.

logo.jpgThe changed characteristics of contemporary society and the emergency in which we have been living for almost a year, bring to a renewed social order by channeling into a "multi-screen society" which is characterized by some essential constitutive dimensions: the individual perceptual dimension, the dynamics of learning and the logic of localization in the space of the subjects engaged in social relations. The users turn into an active manipulator and builder of cultural content. Digital outlines a Screen Generation or Finger Generation society dominated by the use of gaze and typing; There is no doubt that we have found ourselves  into a new world and a new way of teaching and learning, both teachers and students had to get involved: they learned to use an emergency teaching method, the online one, changing approach and focusing on greater cohesion with students on the one hand, and in various difficulties in achieving the standard teaching objectives .

During this very complex moment for the whole world, for the all the people,  we have witnessed a real digital revolution of the school system, unthinkable until a few months ago. Although the Italian school was in most cases behind on digital skills and tools, the crisis has given a decisive inputs for the development of that technological knowledge that plays a fundamental role in the world of work and education.

As for the students, the online teaching used in this emergency has trained the students, offering them fundamental digital skills on a professional level. It has also improved their relationship with technology. Another strength of the Distance learning is certainly its inclusiveness: remote schooling has reached anyone, even those with different abilities. But if on the one hand we are faced with strengths, on the other there are so many difficulties.

The main problem for online lessons is the lack of adequate tools and infrastructures: insufficient internet connection and lack of devices in some areas of the country. This has not made the educational-teaching method totally egalitarian for everyone. Even the distractions, greater at home than in the traditional classroom, is the enemy of online teaching. .

But we have to consider that Distance learning cannot absolutely substitute  face-to-face teaching, which remains fundamental and necessary. Therefore, to use distance learning must  be considered permanently integrated with the traditional methods.
